MT. PLEASANT, S.C. ? The College of Charleston softball team will open its fall season this Friday, Sept. 30 with the first of four doubleheaders the team will host over the next three weeks. All games will be played at Patriots Point and admission will always be free to the public.

The fall slate opens on Friday, Sept. 30 when the Cougars host crosstown-rival Charleston Southern on Sunday, Sept. 30. The Cougars and Bucs met six times last spring and evenly split the series, 3-3.

CofC then hosts two doubleheaders the following weekend with Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday, Oct. 6 at noon and Anderson on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.

The final doubleheader of the fall is on Saturday, Oct. 13 against Coastal Carolina at noon.

?With each scrimmage we are improving as a whole,? said senior outfielder Kristy Giragosian. ?Some of the freshmen have really stepped up and given us returners a run for our money. This is definitely breeding healthy competition and will only better us in the long run. The scrimmages are a great way for us to get to know each other?s strengths and weaknesses while building team chemistry.?

Last season, the Cougars made a historic run to their second consecutive Southern Conference championship game by stringing together four must-have wins while facing elimination in the SoCon Tournament. The Cougars return all but one starter to this team and look forward to another exciting run in the spring of 2013.
